“The cyanotype process is the oldest photographic process that begins by mixing a light-sensitive chemical solution, which is then painted onto paper. Once dry, I expose the paper to the sun with a plant or natural object touching the paper which is called a photogram. Once the paper has fully exposed, it is developed by using a water bath. The result is a white silhouette of the object on a Prussian blue background. Because of the chemicals used the result is always blue and white.”

Tossed with an irregular color palette, the old timey features are replaced with a weird dreamlike trip which is often how we recall these kinds of joyful moments.” Donated 2021.

Animal, Vegetable, Mineral series memorializes the mundane, incorporating key elements of life–animal, vegetable, and mineral–into a single composed image. The body of work adds nuance to an amorphous conversation regarding individual agency in the conscious and subconscious curation of the world around us. One of the first in this ongoing series, this piece combines elements chosen for their conceptual and aesthetic relationship: minerals with formations like fingers, fingers that can weave, woven webs. These subject-objects are stricken from context, pared down to their essential relationships.” Donated 2021.

“JANUARY 21, 2017- It was a bleak, rain soaked day in Falls Park, Greenville, SC. Despite the weather, thousands of umbrellas protected women, men and children as they stood and listened to heartfelt thoughts from people of all races, genders and religions. These were words of positivity and inclusiveness, of working together to solve the world’s challenges, words of love. I was extremely proud of my city on this day and thankful to have witnessed the beautiful sights and sounds of citizens coming together with common purpose. “Inspired after my brother took his life…I left to the woods to find some peace and ended up in the mountains of upstate New York. I unexpectedly found my peace there. My brother was an amazing artist finishing up his last semester at Parsons in NYC when suddenly he was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. He stopped creating, and it tortured him. His mind wouldn’t let him. I always admired him and wanted to be a great artist like him. He told me not to compare and to believe in myself…that one day I would find my style, and it would be nothing like his, and it would be grand. He was right. The last time I spoke to him he said he wanted to run away into the woods and never come back, so I painted this and took him there.” Donated 2021.
